Sometimes you need to look back to be able to look ahead.

Seeing all the work I have left to do, all the main work, plus all the things we left behind to touch up or get later, gets rather depressing some days. You start to get the feeling you are going nowhere and have done nothing.

Then, as if something knows you need a boost, you find something. My computer crashed and had to be kick started to day one, Manufacture default. This means everything I had, photos, documents, downloaded programs, all gone. While that was going on I fired up the old computer that was downstairs, (not wifi compatible). It has a load of photos in it and in that pile was a bunch of pictures I took of Softail, Soft-tail was a kitten that showed up one night in cold weather so I brought it in the house. My cat, Tink, was not happy about the matter. So I went looking for a new home for the little critter, which after three months I found. That kitten left me with some unusual memories, like finding it one morning in the fireplace behind the glass doors. How it got there I could not figure out, until two days later when I watched it walking across the ridge-beam of the house. The idiot came down the chimney. But anyway, I took pictures of it when I first started working on the house, ie...the reason for the kitchen floor replacement.

Man...the house really has come a long way..

frustrations

There's actually quite a bit done on the house....

And a million more things to do...

Working upstairs I found that the ceiling actually pushes up and down against the wall and there seems to be no single straight edge in the ceiling. This means the only way to get a decent seal is to add mouldings, the problem is, there are no straight lines.

So, while the top of the moulding is butted against the ceiling at the sloped wall and the other end is up against the ceiling at the wall end, the center has a gap. The ceiling has an angle to it.

Look at where the ceiling and angled wall meet. try following that with a straight edge.

The same problem existed on the long wall, aligned at both ends means the center is bowed. So I either have an arched moulding, (an uneven arch) or i mount and fill. I opted for fill. Hopefully when painted it wont be so noticeable. I have also decided not to use the ceiling as a paint line. If I paint the ceiling color down the angled walls and bring the line down to match on the long walls before switching color it may take the accent off that area.

The photo below really shows the gap on the left moulding, The right moulding will actually run true, and is currently just inplace by being wedged between the moulding and the wall.

Final coat applied

The vestibule walls have received their final coat of Behr Cracked Wheat paint. The trim work now needs a bit of touch up, (Yes. I am a slob).  Touching up paint with me involved usually means I'll be switching back and forth between colors as I continually make small errors.

The windows need a little razor work, but I will be honest here, they were like that before we painted.

The ceiling also needs touch up, we are going to use the Serene (Bliss) Blue...Ghosts prevention  @@

Front door and upstairs

Natalie arrived yesterday to paint the front vestibule and pick up a computer desk which I no longer need. I left work at noon (it's Saturday related) and arrived home shortly afterwards. My job was to work upstairs cleaning. Natalie put this on hold right away by stealing my water bucket, cleaner (ZAP Citrus) and sponge to wash the inside of the room she's working on. Once completed I went upstairs to clean. While there the aroma of food started to permeate the house, Natalie was cooking. I started washing the computer table, picture ten years of spilled coffee, beer, tea, soda, and whiskey with ten years of cigarette ashes mixed in to form a black concrete.

Natalie gave the door two coats of paint, and it still needs more, she also finished the first coat on the walls before having to leave, it was 4pm and she had to be at a meeting with her daughter at 3:30.

The wall scrubbing is now half done, with the worst part of the room done.

Two coats of paint and the door is just drinking in the paint.
Still ugly but it's getting better, I did have an epiphany, when we do the next room, the crappy linoleum stays down until after we scrub and paint.

We disassemble Natalie's new table puzzle

Still working upstairs...

I am still in the process of working on the game room, and the vestibule is still waiting for paint, for that matter there is still a ton of things in every room we have painted that still needs doing, Some of the things are simple like putting shelves up or cleaning up some trim work, others, like the dining room window are more involved. In between are things like cleaning and painting the interior of the kitchen cabinets. The list gore on and on, with every major item that is completed there are numerous small things that need to be addressed. Then occasionally there are things that aren't really on a to-do list, they are just items that get done because I have the money at that instant or I decide to take care of an extra.

The other day I went to Home Depot to pick up cleaning supplies for the upstairs and while I was there I also picked up a couple Westinghouse ceiling light mount bars and a couple glass ceiling light domes. I installed one dome over the kitchen sink,

As you can see, this window still needs painting (later to be replaced by a thermal unit), and the trim on the left needs cleaning up.
With that dome in place I am thinking about changing the plastic dome on the ceiling fan to match.

Another item was to add a little decor, I have picked up some art for the Dining room, the motif is Maine Lobstering. When I was young the family went to Jonesport Maine every year, specifically, Sandy River Beach. The entire area is part of the Bay of Fundy which has extreme tide changes.

While searching for that type of art online, I came across a photo I had to purchase, The photo was taken from the deck at our old cabin of Mink island.

I temporarily have two Instamatic pictures hanging from the photos base taken around 1972.

Kitchen light replacment

The light I had there was a glass dome style with useless bulbs, they come on bright, then go dim and slowly work their way back.
I decided to go with another ceiling fan

Vestibule

Seams sealed along ceiling edge, shelf and mirror holes patched, and area under window cut out, patched and sanded. All that's needed now is a tad bit of paint
