The angled wall on the west sloped wall in the north room has a couple issues as you can see from the photo below.
This original sheet does not meet the wood below, nor does it meet the ceiling sheet rock. The right hand side has no beam behind it for support and so it moves in and out. I picked up an extra length of corner bead and am going to screw it to that existing panel and the wall which should secure it.
Then the longer new sheet will cover the entire area. This will leave taping and painting.
The other day Nat asked what color I want for the upstairs room, I told her, she's the one living in it, pick out the colors. The plan is for her to move in, now here's the issues I see... Nat Me Ambitious, workaholic - Lazy and content Neat and organized - Can't even remember to bring in the mail Works Rotation-ally (FD) - Regular schedule Non Smoker - Chimney Frugal - Impulse buyer Exercise and Healthy foods - Love all things FAT So picture if you will, me sitting in a recliner in a tee shirt and my underwear, drinking Cruzan Rum and Jack Daniels, Smoking up a storm, trash cans over flowing, in front of a 50" TV playing Call of Duty with the surround sound cranked up, she is trying to sleep in the next room after working three continuous 12 hour tours at the firehouse. How long before things come to a head do you think? At least I will have one argument going for me, "You bought me the surround system, if I don't use it, it would be a waste of your money".
Last night I put together the first of the wall shelf sections for games and DVDs. What I found right away was that the Dewalt work site table saw was designed for building a house, not renovating one. It will cut boards and sheets of plywood all day long, every day, what it doesn't do well is Dado cuts. To create a 3/4" groove,
The dado set up requires 1 outside cutting blade, a chopper, a shim, a chopper, a shim, a chopper, and the inside cutting blade.
The problem is, the DW440 does not have a long enough arbor.
The most it will allow is the inner and outer saw blades and one chopper blade, this creates a groove just under a 1/2". So I had to make two passes shifting the board to receive a 3/4" cut. But it worked out alright. Just took extra time
While I was playing with wood, Nat was busy in the next room filling crevices.
The section above will be removed and replaced, (sheetrock dropped off yesterday). The angle to the right does not meet any framework or support, so that will be addressed also. The smallest of the group was proud that he had a muscle shirt on because I was wearing one. But we didn't get to see any muscles at work, he was glued to the television. When asked if he would go dumpster diving to reclaim some window screens for his grandmother to recycle he flat out refused. So she went diving, wearing flip flops.
This morning I woke up early, buried my face in the cats fur, (curled up next to me), showered, dressed, made a cup of coffee, looked at some mail, growled about the bills, fed the cat, let her out and then noticed I still had 45 minutes before I had to leave for work. So I decided to take a hike upstairs and start thinking about the DVD,VCR,Games shelves. I took some quick measurements, and fired up the table saw.
Each of the shelves will be five feet long and there will be five shelves per section, this should allow approximately 120 dvd's per shelf.
Next comes DADO cuts, since the last time I worked DADO was in Shop class in Junior High, I will have to explore how to arrange the blade stack.
So two uprights and five shelves are cut to length, then it was off to work.
The awning over the back door has seen better days, the corrugated panels are so old they are soft and flapping in the breeze. So I picked up some Asphalt treated replacements.
I was going to use them reversed, black side up, but , Red might not look bad.
